BBL
- A New Hope?
I've never
been a much of a BBL fan. In fact, I can probably count on
my fingers and toes the number of BBL games I've been to.
What's the point of going to watch a load of Americans, not
good enough to play in Europe, when I could go to an EBL game
and watch people I know playing?
But this
year, things might just be different. For the first time in
my basketball experience, there seem to be a lot of English
guys not only playing for BBL teams, but actually making crucial
contributions (rather than riding the pine and filling quotas).
It's
early days, I know, but a quick look at the stats sheets and
it's clear to see British players are smashing it.
At Milton
Keynes, Streetball.co.uk baller Pierre Henry-Fontaine is building
on a successful rookie season - averaging 5 assists per game
and shooting an incredible 69% from the field (3rd best in
the league) and 100% from beyond the arc (don't get too excited
though, it's only 3-from-3!)
Meanwhile,
Junior Williams has joined King P at the Lions and is, by
all accounts, settling in nicely. He's 4th in the league in
assists (6.5 per) and second in steals (4.5).
Speaking
of ex-Westminster Warriors, Germayne Forbes and Julius Joseph
are now at the Scottish Rocks...who currently sit joint top
of the league table along with Milton Keynes. Julius is 7th
in the league in scoring, with an impressive 22ppg on 64%
shooting. Meanwhile G-Whizz is dropping 5 dimes an outing
and is 100% from the line.
