F**K VEGAS
Monday 19 February, 2007

What’s up people. It’s been a while since my last update, so apologies. I’m also going to say "sorry" now because I’m moaning about a lot of stuff in this diary entry.
I’m probably in a bad mood because I only had a few hours sleep last night, after staying up until 4 in the morning watching the All-Star game. And you know what…it wasn’t even worth it.
No one absolutely killed it. There were no ridiculous moves or dunks. And the game was a complete blow-out by half time, meaning there was no excitement about who would win. In all, I think I would have preferred a good night’s sleep!

My one consolation prize was the fact that I’d picked Kobe to win the MVP. My bro was going with T-Mac, and a couple of friends I had round were rolling with Stoudamire and LeBron. Originally, I’d said Wade. Then it occurred to me that the West would almost certainly win, so I revised my choice to number 24.

The dunk contest wasn’t great either. It was quite entertaining, I will admit…the showmanship was great and there were a lot of funny gimmicks. But there wasn’t a single dunk that left me like "woooooooooah!!".
A lot of people feel Dwight Howard got bumped, saying that putting a sticker 12 feet up the backboard was sick. But, you know what, it isn’t that amazing. Dude is 7 foot tall with some loooooong arms. He probably only had to jump 30 inches to do that.
What was impressive though was how high Gerald Green was getting…I swear he was actually looking down into the ring on that alley-oop that Paul Pierce gave him off the side of the backboard.

In fact, there’s a pretty cool feature on NBA.com. They’ve got some Matrix-style 360 camerawork on some of the dunks, including the one I’ve just mentioned. Check this link.

I didn’t see the 3 point shoot out or the skills challenge, and I’m not particularly fussed. What I would’ve loved to have seen though was Charles Barkley’s race against Dick Bavetta. I saw all the pre-game stuff they’d shot – with Barkley talking shit, getting trained by a former Olympic sprinter and all that. I really wanted Bavetta to win to be honest!

I tried watching a bit of the D-League All-Star game on Friday night – but the garbage they were streaming on NBA.com was unwatchable. It was just one dodgy camera angle, with no commentary or anything, just following Adam Morrission around the court. I watched 5 minutes and turned it off. I can’t actually see how anyone could have actually sat through the whole game…and can’t understand why NBA.com even bothered doing it.
What was good news though was hearing the next day that Pops had won the MVP after dropping 30 points and grabbing 7 boards. LDN represent!!

Oh yeah, one last thing on All-Star….anyone else notice how Christina Aguilera’s performance absolutely MURKED Toni Braxton’s? LOL

Speaking of Aguilera – anyone see that shit going on with Britney Spears? She’s been a mental breakdown waiting to happen for a while now…and it looks as if she’s finally snapped – shaving off all her hair. Anna Nicola Smith part II, anyone?

And it gets better - some joker is now shotting her hair for $1 million on eBay!

Back to basketball, and my local team Guildford Heat are still top of the BBL. But they won’t be a part of the Trophy Final taking place in Newcastle in a couple of weeks. That’ll see the Newcastle Eagles taking on the Plymouth Raiders. I’ve only ever been to Newcastle once before, so I’m looking forward to going up there. We featured one of the semi-final games on my UKTV show last week – the Eagles against the Sheffield Sharks…and it was one of the most boring games I’ve ever seen in my life. It finished 58 – 55…..yawn. Hopefully the final will be more exciting. I think I might be presenting the TV coverage of it too…I’ll let you guys know.

Back to the NBA, and there are all sorts of rumours that Luol is going to get trader for Pau Gasol. I hope to god, for Deng’s sake, it doesn’t happen.

And how could I forget the whole Amaechi saga?!

I’ve already made my feelings clear on this issue (to quote T-Mac: "I’m the type of dude that don’t give a fuck")…but Tim Hardaway’s comments were crazy! To be honest, I think he just said what most men feel…but I can’t believe he was stupid enough to do so! And his decision to play the race card in his defence is just even more stupid.

And finally – the NBA is coming back to London for the first time in 12 years. Continuing my moaning theme, I’m not too excited about the teams – the Minnesota Timberwolves will take on the Boston Celtics at the o2 arena in October. Why couldn’t they get the Bulls over? That would have generated so much more publicity, if Luol was playing. But whatever…it’s a chance to see NBA teams in the UK, so I can’t knock it too much.

Anyway, that’s about it right now. Remember to watch UKTV SLAM on UKTV G2 every Sunday morning at 11am (to see yours truly doing his thing).

Until next time…keep ballin’
