- Stefan
Gill
Mr Matrix was impressive at the Birmingham run last week, but didn't
manage to stay on the floor long enough to get onto the leaderboard.
However, he MORE than made up for it this week. Stef was unstoppable
- launching a deadly long-range assault on all challengers. He also
took the ball to the basket strong. Finished the night WAY out in
front at the top of the leaderboard with the highest points total
of all qualifier events.
- Zayne
Gawanab
The shock of the night, Zayne played out of his skin to earn second
place on the leaderboard. Stroking the outside jumper and finishing
some tough lay-ups helped him, and his team, to rack up those all
important W's.
- Hugh
Barnett
A relative unknown, Hugh got the job done the old fashioned way
- through hard work, chasing down rebounds and playing D.
- Karolis
Stepanavicius
We can't pronounce his name, but we know one thing - this guy can
play.
Earned his way onto the court in the "show and prove"
session with tough inside play...going to the basket and often finishing
with authority. Racked up a massive points total early on and managed
to stay near the top of the leaderboard for the rest of the night.
On a side note...he looks more like Ivan Drago than Dolph Lundgren.
- Benjamin
Lawman
If Matrix was the best baller of the night, then Benji was the most
exciting.
He too earned his place on the elite court...after dunking all over
people on court 3.
Once he got onto the main stage, he stepped up another gear - finishing
fast breaks with some monster dunks and playing good team basketball.
Brought the house down with a T-Mac style jam off the backboard.
Ouch.
- Gareth
Laws
You gotta love G-Laws. After playing (and losing) a few games, he
found himself on -3 points. Most guys would have given up. But The
Juggernaut refused to lose...and when he came back onto the court
he did everything in his power to make sure his team won and snagged
all of those 5 point bonuses. G did it all, driving the lane, hitting
the J, finding the open man...more than earned his spot at Brixton.
- Darryl
Lewis
Another guy who could have given up, Darryl told me after the event
that he was in 20th position with two hours left. But, like Gareth,
he was hungry for a place at the finals - and went on a mission
to book himself a place on the list.
- Papa
Demba-Kasse
This guy came out of the woodwork at the Brixton qualifier and nearly
made the top 10.
His efforts there meant he took to the elite court at Crystal Palace
as one of the pre-seeded players. This man mountain brought a huge
inside presence, not to mention untold rebounds.
- Daniel
Sandell
Fresh off the plane back from American, Daniel stacked up his points
so quietly you almost forgot he was there. But come 6am, his name
was there on the list...and that's all that matters.
- Laurent
Irish
Where's this cat been all summer?! Laurie smashed up the Crystal
Palace run early...getting himself to the top of the leaderboard.
After a few hours he figured he'd done enough to make it to Brixton
and went home. Turns out he was right...just!
